ELITeXPO CEO, Dave Mihalik, LIVE Interview!

Recently at EDPA Access 2017 I was approached by a good friend of mine from the industry, Mike Morrison from WH Display who also is the host of the Don & Mike Show which is a Podcast for the Event and Experiential Marketing world. Mike is joined on the weekly podcast by Don Svehla who is the publisher of Exhibit City News, another friend that I have known for many years. They expressed an interest to discuss current issues in transportation that affect the trade show industry. I appreciated the opportunity to discuss with Mike some of the issues that companies who ship in and out of trade show’s may experience.

I recently bought 4 bottles of hand soap from a store that I was at and they were a dollar each. The bottle was nice and fair quantity and they had pretty pictures of the fragrances lavender, coconut, jasmine and orange. When I got home the first time I used one of them I realized why they were a dollar. They didn’t lather up; the consistency was goopy and clearly this was a low-quality item. It would take me months to use them all and every time I washed my hands I would get mad that I bought 4 bottles! I finally threw them out.

I have always been a big proponent of pre-show planning, it’s a topic that I often share with customers and or colleagues when discussing their upcoming face- to-face event. I thought I would share my checklist with you, it’s straight forward and I have found it to be on target when discussing one’s strategic approach to exhibiting. Frankly quite often they find the questions to be somewhat enlightening, and often end up with a much different perspective on how to approach the show after some discussion. I call it ‘Know Before You Go’ Why are you Going? Exhibit for the right reason!

On Vacation... Uh, Not So Much

You never know when you might be able to help someone. You also never know when you might be able to put your trade show experience to use while away from the office or as the guys I helped incorrectly assumed, "on vacation". I know that most of you who also work in trade shows often are envied by family and friends of all the great resort and vacation cities we are traveling to, envisioning someone of means and class, jet setting around the globe. If you’re like me, in your head you're thinking out loud, "uh, not so much".

Help For Your Event Budgeting

According to a recent CEIR report, the cost of a face-to-face meeting with a prospect at a tradeshow is less than 10% of the cost of identifying and meeting with a prospect in the field. They also require less sales calls to close a sale. The overall savings per prospect are significant. So justifying the value of exhibiting at a tradeshow is easy.

Oktoberfest Season

There is nothing more fun than celebrating one's heritage. As someone who's father came to America on a ship from Germany, I was raised to enjoy many of the fine German traditions that my father and grandmother had made a part of my life growing up. The German music that new employees get to enjoy during their initial training at ELITeXPO is one small part. Other traditions include German food and German Bier (that's Deutsch for beer). Of course there's my yearly trip to German Fest (32 years now) and regular attendance at several Oktoberfest celebrations in Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin.
